![]() ![]() After the nerfs, against defenseless enemies like crabs, blowpipe is still far and away the best option. See, I ran the calcs for MSB and RCB expecting to find cases where each could now steal the spotlight back from BP, and I technically did. If BP is getting gutted, what are the alternatives? If it’s going to be this bad, where should I start using MSB and where should I start using RCB? If not BP, then what is the new midgame ranged weapon? However, we do have a new midgame ranged weapon that caught me entirely offguard: the nerfed blowpipe. Which left me and, it seems, the whole community asking: What am I going to use instead? After the nerf that same kill would take ~2:30, meaning an extra 45 seconds of not missing a prayer, though eagle eye/rigour and ranging pots obviously help alleviate this some. For context, currently Jad takes ~1:45 to kill at level 85 with a BP and addy darts, ignoring prayer/potions and healers or anything else that stops your DPS. That’s obviously a really significant amount of damage. The nerf ends up being about a 18% DPS decrease against 0 defense monsters (ammonites in the calculations) up to a ~30% decrease against the highest defense monster I checked, Jad. To see just how bad it is, I ran DPS calcs for a reasonable range of defences: ammonites(0), gargoyles(95), demonics(200), Ket-Zek (fight cave mager, 240), and Jad(480). It's a massive nerf that will be noticeable in pretty much every situation you currently use blowpipe. Literally halving the attack bonus and nearly halving the strength bonus seems like a huge nerf. This was my first thought when I read the blogpost today a blowpipe nerf felt maybe necessary, but the nerfs looked like they’d be absolutely gutting it. Melee: Nezzy helm, Fury, Fire cape, Fighter Torso, Obby legs, D boots, Barrows Gloves, Berserker ring(i), and d def. Ranged Setup: Zammy Coif, Amulet of Glory, Accumulator, Ancient D'hide body/legs, Snakeskin Boots, Barrows Gloves, Archers' ring(i), and a book of law when applicable. Finally, to maintain consistency I found setups that seemed entirely reasonable for a midgame player to have that were comparable prices. Anywhere that’s not the case, I’ll specify. I did most of the DPS calcs for both pre and post-nerf BP with adamant darts, since they tend to be the go-to balance of cost and effectiveness. I ran all the damage calcs below without any prayer or potions activated. I'm not an ironman, so this post is largely from the perspective of someone that can buy things. I'm not a statistics/excel professional, if you doubt my data I encourage you to double check me on it. ![]() I’m not going to tell you your opinion is right/wrong, but figure I can at least give hard data for people to base their thoughts off of. I’m hoping to just shed some light on the impacts of this (potential) change. I was torn on how I felt about it as well, so to figure out how I should feel I made a big-ass spreadsheet because that’s who I am as a person. So I know there’s been a lot of salt flying around from today’s blogpost with the equipment rebalancing, specifically the nerfs to blowpipe. Sorry this got way longer than I intended) I tried to put the links in the most important sentences, so just read through those and check out the graphs if you want to skim.
